Steve Boga is a freelance writer, editor, and teacher, and was a longtime umpire and umpire instructor. He has officiated thousands of games in college and professional baseball, and taught thousands of student-umpires how to be perfect on day one and improve thereafter. His lesson, You Be The Judge, reflects his lifelong fascination with baseball's strange plays and knotty problems.
Throughout Steve Boga’s childhood and for much of his adulthood, baseball was central to his life. For years, he played ball every summer day and tossed, traded, and collected baseball cards. Baseball was the organizing principle, the glue, that bonded his male relationships.
After high school, forced to accept that he’d never play shortstop for the New York Yankees, he became an umpire and umpire instructor. After his last season in professional baseball, he turned to writing.
Since 1996, he has taught memoir writing at Santa Rosa Junior College. He has authored more than thirty books, including his latest:
How to Umpire Baseball and Softball
The Humorous Side of Major League Baseball
